The Swarovski England Ladies team took an 8-3 victory over the Llangollen USA Ladies squad yesterday in the 26-goal Thai Polo Club Ladies Internationalfor the Diamond Jubilee Trophy at Guards Polo Club.
England seized control from the first throw-in. Izzy McGregor put the first two goals on the board in decisive fashion, ending the first chukker 2-0. England captain Nina Clarkin powered a goal in from 70 yards out, her team continuing to gain momentum throughout the first half.
K.C. Krueger put USA Ladies on the board for the first time shortly before the end of the third chukker, making the score 7-1. Julia Smith made a breathtaking breakaway and continued the momentum, tallying up another goal.
Hazel Jackson started the fourth chukker with a bang, scoring her third goal and stretching the gap to 8-2. Jackson and Clarkin were on fire all day, scoring a combined five goals. McGregor contributed England’s other three goals.The USA Ladies fought to the last second, and Smith put a final goal on the board for the stars and stripes, ending the four-chukker game 8-3 for England.
England’s Hazel Jackson was named Swarovski Most Valuable Player, and Nina Clarkin received Best Playing Pony for Jess, owned by the McGregors.
