Monday marks the 2017 debut of the two big-gun teams in the Tortugas Open (La Dolfina and Ellerstina). La Irenita (0-1) faces La Dolfina at 2 p.m. local time, and Cría Yatay opposes Ellerstina at 4 p.m. Both games were postponed from the weekends due to rain and have been moved from the Tortugas Country Club to AAP headquarters in Pilar. Our Player to Watch in game two is Nico Pieres of Ellerstina.

The newest 10-goal player, Nico Pieres was a key player in 2017 in helping Flexjet reach the semi-finals of the U.S. Open and Habtoor reach the semi-finals of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup for the British Open. As the second-leading scorer in the Gold Cup with 35 goals, trailing only Facundo Pieres, Nico has elevated his game to warrant the 10-goal rating in Argentina.

In last year’s Argentine Open, Nico was a critical element for Ellerstina in the middle of the field. He launched attacks and successfully protected the back end while Facundo, Gonzalito and Polito drove forward. The offensive firepower for Ellerstina is there with all four players, but Nico has improved in every aspect of the game, with his defensive positioning and actions proving to be critical for Ellerstina’s success.
